Vienna Elite will be fielding a team of (11 or 12)* skilled U16/17 players. Our program is expected to be one of the most rigorous training programs in the Region. The team is expected to be a competitive "CLUB" level team which will compete in selected multi-day tournaments and local AAU and CHRVA tournaments (Refer to tentative schedule below).
The U16 team is expected to practice twice per week. During the training months of November and December as well as on non-tournament weekends from January thru May, the Club may also hold "Academy" which will focus on specific skills (i.e. serving, passing, setting, team defense etc). Academy will be run by special instructors or by Vienna Elite coaches.
Our club is working to create a competitive environments for players to learn and reach their maximum potential. When understanding our club fees use these points to consider, practice time, coaches, and cost for tournaments.
* At the discretion of the club 1 or 2 "practice players" will be considered depending on the circumstances of the team. Practice players will not participate in any matches or tournaments unless specifically called upon by the Head Coach.
Brett Matthes (USAV IMPACT CERTIFIED) is originally from Reston VA. In middle school, he was introduced to the sport at an after school club program. He began playing competitively for his high school team at South Lakes and began playing club as a sophomore in high school. He continued his career in college, playing as a setter for West Virginia University’s Men’s team for 5 years. While at West Virginia Brett began coaching as well. He started by assisting the Women's Club Volleyball team with their practices. He later became the head coach at Trinity Christian School, in Morgantown WV. In his second year coaching at the school, Coach Brett took on the responsibility of running the school's entire volleyball program. He served as the Varsity Head Coach for both HS and MS teams.
Coach Brett returned to Northern Virginia after graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in History and Africana Studies. He continues to play volleyball at regional tournaments when he can, but has turned his focus more in the direction of coaching. He has now finished his second year as the Assistant Coach at The Flint Hill School. The past two seasons he has been about to work with some fantastic coaches in Northern Virginia including two former U.S. National Team players.
Coach Brett believes his knowledge of the game, gained through both playing and coaching, can provide a fantastic volleyball experience for any athlete who is willing to work hard. Aside from challenging an athlete to become as talented at the sport as they can be, he believes if an athlete can also have at least half as much fun as he did growing through volleyball, then he has done a fantastic job. He is excited to coach at Vienna Elite! ( Contact: brett.mathes@viennaelite.org )
