Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between Vienna Elite Travel, Black and White teams?
A: This season, Travel team will play a more rigorous travel tournament schedule. Travel teams will play into June at AAU Nationals in Orlando if teams do not qualify for USAV Nationals.
Black teams will play in travel tournaments which are more regional. Both teams will be balanced with the differences being the coaches and practice days/times, location. We cannot predict which team will be more competitive or not but we hope to place the highest skilled players on Travel teams whenever possible. We want to provide all players with maximum playing time making sure not one position is over crowded.
Travel and Black teams play mostly multi-day tournaments whereas White teams will play mostly single one day tournaments with a few multi-day tournaments.
Q: What if I only want to play for a specific color team, do I need to let anyone know?
A: Yes, please let the coaches at tryouts or the coach of the team you wish to play for know this information. Or let the club director know at tryouts which team you want to play especially if only White due time or cost constraints.
Q: Which team is the 1 (or A) team or best team within an age group?
A: We hope our Travel team will be the most competitive at every age. Ultimately, our goal is for the players to have an enjoyable playing season. We want our team to be competitive and win but not destroying a players mental well being or their confidence. We believe there are some players/families that are not interested to play in tournaments that require flight due to added expenses and/or time requirements. You should consider the Black or White teams.
Q: Will I receive an offer from only one team?
A: Coaches may offer positions on either or one team based on the needs of the team by position or by familiarity with a specific player of coach. We find that much movement could happen after tryouts within our own club teams based on your overall skill set, the position you desire, ability relative to the overall teams, and also based on the needs of each team as the coach sees fit. If you receive an offer for more than one team, you can inform us which team you select to play. Additionally, it is possible you could receive an offer from one team immediately following tryouts and then to be offered to be move to another team depending on how our offers are accepted or declined on a rolling basis after tryouts.
Q: What if I only want to play specifically the Travel/Black/White team for my age team?
A: If you desire to play specifically for a certain coach or team, it will be important to let us know this information before or during or immediately after tryouts. We don't want to waste your time or ours to make offers on a team that you do not want to play on or can not afford the time and financial commitment it takes. However, please understand that you may be limiting your chances since you are being considered for only a specific team instead of all the teams for your age group. This reduces your chances to make a team in our club.
Q: What if I want to tryout for two ages groups? (i.e. U15 and U16 teams) Do I have to register for both tryouts? How do I manage the two different tryout registrations?
A: Please let us know that you are interested to tryout for both age teams. We will manage these requests independently on a case by case scenario. Please note you can not tryout for U14 and U15 as these tryouts are on two different weekends.
Q: What if I am interested in being a practice player only. What should I do?
A: Please let us know about your interest to be only a practice player before or during or after the tryouts. Practice player positions must also go through tryouts. We are looking for practice players that do not hold up the practices of the team, especially at the older ages. Coaches are also selective about what position the practice player is capable of playing so we don’t overcrowd a specific position at practices.
