WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TRYOUTS

Each Vienna Elite team holds an initial tryout which could also be followed by a callback session if necessary. We highly recommend and encourage all players to attend regular tryout dates vs a make up by appt.  Players who have a conflict on the tryout date may submit a request to schedule a make up session at: registration@viennaelite.org

Not all request for make ups will be granted and is at the discretion of Club Admin.

Each session runs 1.5 hours and starts on-time. Players are welcome to arrive up to 10 minutes early to check-in and warm-up. Upon arrival, players should stop at the check-in desk first where a tryout name tag is assigned and player metrics are gathered. Don't forget to bring a completed copy of the USAV Medical Release form.

During the tryout, the Vienna Elite coaching staff runs through a set of volleyball drills: passing, setting, hitting, serving, etc. and some team playing scenarios. In addition to demonstrating volleyball skills, the session provides players ample opportunities to demonstrate teamwork, communications, attitude and leadership.

 Selection Policy

The mission of the Vienna Elite Volleyball Club is to offer a quality program that provides motivated junior volleyball players the ability to play at a more competitive level through a two season (Winter and Spring) program of individual development that produces players capable of competing successfully at the high school varsity level and beyond.

Our goal at tryouts is to evaluate and select players based on the following criteria:

  • Athletic ability and potential
  • Current volleyball skills
  • Desire and potential to improve volleyball skills and overall volleyball knowledge
  • Attitude (i.e. coach-ability)
  • Ability for a player to fill a position or need of the team
  • Desire to play volleyball at the high school varsity level and beyond

The players we seek are the best volleyball players on the court today. We believe that our program will help players grow in their skills and ability to the next level.

We do not necessarily choose players for a single position though a player’s ability to play a specific role could be a factor. When receiving an offer, players are told if the coaches envision them playing a certain position. However, players should recognize that a season is long and players may play other positions as it would benefit the team.

Not every player will be right fit for our club and vice versa. As club tryout week can be a hectic time for players and families due to the many tryout time conflicts with other volleyball clubs, please make sure to talk to our coaches and club officials for feedback on the opportunities available on your respective team you intend to tryout for. We are a non profit organization and are not interested in simply taking your tryout fees. We want players/families to prepare your tryout schedules wisely to make sure you can find a club that is mutually beneficial.

Selection Process

Players attending tryouts fall into three groups. The stronger players may receive an offer letter immediately after tryouts while other players may receive a letter stating that Vienna Elite does not expect to have a position for them. The third group of players who are "on the bubble" may be asked to return to a callback session or may be put on hold until all tryouts sessions are completed. These players learn after the tryout sessions are completed whether Vienna Elite will be able to offer them a position this season.

In addition to extending offers to fill open positions, Vienna Elite maintains a prioritized wait list of alternates. Once players with offers communicate their decisions, alternate players may be offered an open position on the team.

During the tryouts, a committee of Vienna Elite coaches and club officials jointly evaluates, ranks and selects players to fill open positions and the wait list.

Selection decisions may be communicated to some participants in the gym. All decisions are communicated in via email in a formal Offer Letter after the session.

Commitment Policy

At Vienna Elite, we believe that parents and players participating in club volleyball should choose the program that best suits their needs. Accordingly, Vienna Elite encourages players and parents to meet and discuss with our coaches to learn about our club program before tryouts.

Vienna Elite believes in letting each program speak for itself. We believe that Vienna Elite provides a program that is high-quality, family-friendly while being the most competitive team in Northern Virginia when factoring in access to court time and cost. We are sure that our coaching and training philosophy, dedicated to individual player development, will make Vienna Elite a very good choice for those athletes who want to play volleyball in high school and college.

If you are extended a position and are sure you want to play with Vienna Elite, we are happy to accept your commitment immediately. If you are considering other offers, you are welcome to communicate your final decision within CHRVA commitment rules. However, we do expect you to provide us with a definitive answer as soon as possible as there are other players on our wait list who are under great duress waiting to hear whether they made the team.
